The 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser is now equipped with a new 5.7-liter V-8 engine - the same one used in the new Tundra pickup truck - with 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and, of course, standard all-wheel drive.

The all-wheel drive system provides a separate low range, along with a Torsen center differential that can be locked in any range. The system transfers from 50 to 70 percent of the power to the rear wheels, depending on the slip. The key off-road characteristics of the Land Cruiser, including the angles of entry, exit and departure, as well as ground clearance, have also remained virtually unchanged compared to the previous model. The entrance angle is particularly impressive - 30 degrees. The robust body structure on the frame of the 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser allows for more abuse than most cars, and the rear suspension is designed for almost 9.5 inches of travel from normal to ensure good articulation of the wheels when driving off-road.

Several electronic aids help Toyota Land Cruizer 2008 to maintain stability and improve off-road traction. In addition to the Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist functions that are offered on other Toyota SUVs, the Crawl Control function helps to maintain a very low speed when driving off-road, using the throttle, brakes and stability control.
