The abbreviation, which lies in the name of this model, is associated with the factory where its production was carried out (the plant named after Molotov). Only a few decades later it was renamed, and when the car was released, they began to receive a different letter combination: GAS.
The ZIM-12 belonged to the executive class and, in terms of its demand and popularity, was located between the ZIS-110 limousine and the Pobeda passenger car. Its distinctive features were a pontoon streamlined body, windows without sharp corners and a large number of chrome-plated parts outside and inside the cabin.
The model is also known for the fact that for the first time the corporate logo of the manufacturing city was used in its design. It was a shield with a deer depicted on it and the Kremlin tower. The logo decorated the hood of the car, where it was specially highlighted with a brightly accented red "crest".
