The closed body of the two-door Dodge Viper GTS sports coupe appeared in 1996. Car racer and car designer Carroll Shelby and two-time Formula 1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi were invited as consultants during its creation. They supported the “Dobble Babble” concept—a wave-like roof that rose above the bucket-style leather seats. This allowed the driver and passenger to wear helmets during races. The somewhat aggressive but very charismatic exterior with a huge hood was well suited to the power inherent in American muscle cars and the speed characteristics of the car. The car's handling was excellent, and the raised rear spoiler had a positive effect on its dynamics. Thanks to this, the car with a 450 hp engine could accelerate to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds.
